Call for Abstracts
The Health Research Transfer Network of Alberta (RTNA) invites you to submit an abstract for the 2008 RTNA Conference "Lost in Knowledge Transfer: Finding Our Way Together". The conference is being held at the Rimrock Resort Hotel in Banff, Alberta, Canada, from September 28th to the 30th.
The primary aim of the RTNA 2008 conference is to support evidence-informed decision making and decision-maker informed research, ultimately for the betterment of peoples' lives. Delegates will learn about knowledge transfer and evidence-informed decision making from each other and from the invited speakers. Themes that will be covered at the conference include:
- Use of Narrative
- Knowledge Transfer Tools, Techniques and Processes - E tools, Facilitation, Community of Practice
- Evidence-based Organizations - Walking the Talk
- The impact of context, culture, language on Knowledge Transfer
RTNA is seeking presentations that demonstrate innovative and practical examples of practices, policies, processes, and structures that promote Knowledge Transfer. Topics for abstracts should address or illuminate the conference themes and may include but are not limited to those listed above as well as knowledge brokering, knowledge synthesis and translation, capacity building for research use, KT training, knowledge management, linkage and exchange, and evaluation of the impact of knowledge transfer.
Evaluation Criteria for Abstracts
Abstracts of research projects should address the following:
- Background to the study or project
- Objective or purpose of the study or project
- Theoretical framework (if appropriate)
- Methods used to collect and analyze data
- Results
- Discussion and future implications
Abstracts not using standardized measures should address the following:
- Problem or issue
- Brief summary of findings from literature search (if appropriate)
- Rationale
- Brief description of practice, protocol, or program
- Results
- Discussion and future implications
A submission is more likely to be accepted if it is original, innovative, and contributes to the advancement of evidence-informed decision making in policy and practice. Quality of work, clarity, and completeness of the submitted materials will be considered.
Instructions
There is no limit to the number of abstracts each author may submit; however, the maximum number of oral presentations per delegate is one.
The text of the abstract should be 300 words or less. Tables, figures, diagrams, footnotes/ references, and acknowledgements should not form any part of the abstract's content. As this conference will attract many disciplines, the use of specialty jargon in the abstract should be avoided. Abbreviations should only be used after first defining the term in full.
Presenting authors must be registered delegates. All presenters are responsible for their own expenses to attend the conference.
The deadline for abstract submission is deadline: July 21, 2008
Abstracts can only be submitted via-email to: vanessa.taranto@ahfmr.ab.ca. Faxed abstracts will not be accepted.
All abstracts will be reviewed by a sub-committee of the RTNA Conference Planning Committee and the co-chairs of the RTNA Steering Committee.
Notification of the committee's decision will be by July 30, 2008. Note if you are on vacation during this time, please leave an alternate contact to accept on your behalf.
Accepted abstracts will be published in a Book of Abstracts which will be distributed to conference delegates and made available electronically on the RTNA Web site following the conference.
