Genetics 2000 conference

The near-completion of the Human Genome Project which seeks to map the 100,000 genes for the human body, has given genetics an increased profile in medical and health research.

AHFMR sponsored Genetics 2000: Gene Discovery and Beyond held April 9 & 10, 1999 at the University of Alberta (UofA)

Bang for the Buck
How do you evaluate research activity? Research-funding organizations such as

  • government
  • Boards of Directors
  • Trustees
  • public representatives
    expect a definitive answer.

    AHFMR hosted a workshop at the Banff School of Management] on May 7 & 8, 1999 to tackle the task of evaluating research activity.

    Twenty-two participants from Canada, the United States and England began the process toward building evaluation into research activity. AHFMR will analyze these ideas toward creating a model for evaluation and determine its use in future programs.


    Science Fairs
    AHFMR promotes research and education with its participation in the province's 6 regional science fairs. Each regional winner receives a plaque and $500 towards a trip to the national science fair. This year AHFMR also sponsored the Canada-wide science fair in Edmonton on May 17 & 21, 1999.
