This partnered provincial initiative aims to use Alberta’s health and health related data more effectively.

We need good information to effectively manage our health and our health system. As a province, we don’t have quick and easy access to the right types of information that would help us do this. When stored and used appropriately, health and health-related data that is gathered electronically can help us stay healthy and recover from illness and injury. It can also help us deliver the most precise and effective care in our health system. This saves money and, most importantly, improves health outcomes experienced by Albertans.

A new initiative in Alberta brings researchers, quality improvement and data experts, as well as government and health organizations together with Albertans. This collaborative team is developing a secure, safe place where health and health-related data (information about things like our environment that impact our health) can be used to help us all: create new cancer treatments, determine the most precise and effective treatments for heart failure, learn what contributes to good lifelong mental health habits for children, or assist individual Albertans to best manage their diabetes.

We have an important opportunity to work together as a province toward a future where the full potential of the data available to us is used to achieve the best possible health, the highest-quality care and a sustainable, efficient health system for all Albertans.

We’ll post information and invitations to get involved as this important initiative progresses.
