REQUEST FOR
APPLICATIONS
"State of the Science Reviews"
To inform directions for health research
Dear Prospective Applicant:
I am writing to you as the Vice President, Research of the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR) to invite you and your colleagues, either in Alberta or elsewhere, to submit a proposal to review the "state of the science" in relevant topics in health services and health policy research.
Your proposal is invited for a February 15, 2002 deadline.
The background to this request for applications, and the application process are described in two documents which accompany this letter: 1.) Developing Programs of Research - Health Research Priority Themes and Questions; and 2.) Request for Applications -- Informing Directions in Health Research: "State of the Science" reviews. These documents may also be found on the AHFMR website at http://www.ahfmr.ab.ca
These proposals are being requested as part of a general effort to ensure that health research is valued by policy and decision-makers, and thereby supports evidence based decision - making in health. The purpose of the "state of the science" review is to summarize the scientific research literature in a content area to inform future health planning and research activity. The products of this process will set the stage for the development of a call for proposals for programs of research to address gaps in knowledge and answer priority questions.
These "State of the Science" reviews, and the programs of research that may arise from them are funded through the Health Research Collaboration between AHFMR and Alberta Health & Wellness.
If you have any questions regarding the Request for Applications, or the application process, please call the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research at (780) 423-5727, and ask to speak with either Ms. Sarah Hayward, Director of Applied Health Research Programs or myself.
Thank you for your interest. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Jacques Magnan, Ph.D.
Vice President, Research
