Is there any special format required or a specific application form for the proposal?
There are no particular format requirements for the letter of intent, and there is no application form. You proposal should cover clearly and succinctly all the elements outlined in the request for proposals, but you are not required to follow a particular format.
Is the five page limit firm? Does it include budget, and can there be appendices?
The five page limit is firm and should include all elements outlined in the RFA. Only the budget and brief C.V.s may be appended, as long as they are short and do not include any elements of the application.
What kinds of organizations can apply for this grant?
Applicants should be "sponsored" by a non-profit, Alberta-based health organization (e.g. University, health authority, non-profit health organization). Not all team members need to be based in Alberta, but leadership of the project should be from Alberta. If you are not part of an organization, please indicate the affiliations of your team, and we will deal with appropriate accountability issues as we move forward.
How focussed can the review be?
The purpose of these reviews is two-fold: to identify gaps in the science that will inform the development of five-year programs of research, and to identify learning to date that will inform policy and planning. The focus of each review should be broad enough to fulfil these purposes, while being narrow enough to be feasible and provide useful answers.
In terms of the research methodology, how much detail do you want?
The methodology section should outline the approach you will use, including the overall design and method. However, details such as the key words to be used in a search strategy are not required.
Is a signature page required?
The usual approval signatures are required, i.e. from the institutional grant holder. If you are submitting by email, include electronic signatures where you can, and send the original with all signatures by mail.
What are the expectations for the CVs submitted with the proposal?
The CVs are to provide enough information to inform us about the expertise and experience of the people involved. We don't need a full CV but rather a targeted summary of relevant expertise. There is no required format, however, if you wish to use the CIHR module approach this is acceptable. CVs are expected for all key members of the investigator team, not advisors or staff.
Is this grant funding, or contract research?
This is grant funding and will be administered through AHFMR's Grants and Awards program.
Can the proposal be delivered electronically?
The proposal can be delivered either electronically or by mail/courier. Electronically, it can be submitted to either
jacques.magnan@ahfmr.ab.ca or sarah.hayward@ahfmr.ab.ca. If submitting electronically, please send original with signatures by mail.
