The State of the Science Reviews program is administered by the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research and supported by Alberta Health and Wellness.
The purpose of the State of the Science Reviews program is to summarize the health services scientific literature in areas of priority by providing an overview of the areas of strength and weakness in the research base, identifying gaps in the existing knowledge, and reviewing policy implications.
These reviews represent the initial research documents, the first deliverables, available to provide an information base to assist policy- and decision-makers in these areas. The reviews are also meant to inform and strengthen the proposals of the research community seeking support from AHFMR and Alberta Health and Wellness, and to inform the upcoming development and review of future Programs of research in these important health areas.
Each report is available below in three different layouts; a formatted Executive Summary of the Review, a Summary Presentation and the complete report.
