Results of the April 2008 AHFMR Interdisciplinary Team Grant Letter of Intent Competition

In February AHFMR received 47 registrations for the 2008 Interdisciplinary Team Grant letter of intent (LOI) competition. There were 37 LOIs subsequently received by the Foundation for the April 14 deadline.

All LOIs were assessed by the Interdisciplinary Team Grant Advisory Committee which comprises researchers from universities across Canada, including the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta. Each application was reviewed in detail by two committee members; external reviews were not obtained as part of the LOI assessment process.

The Foundation has approved 11 of the 37 LOIs to proceed to the full application stage. Official letters, including feedback from the review process will be provided to all team leaders within the next few weeks.

AHFMR will provide up to $10,000 to one team leader from each of the approved LOI teams to assist in the development of the full application. In order to receive this funding, the leader will be required to submit a brief (~one page) request to the Foundation identifying the anticipated use of the funds. The submission deadline for the full application is Friday, November 14, 2008.

A third competition for the Interdisciplinary Team Grant program is not scheduled at the present time. Any subsequent competitions will be pending the early evaluation of the teams funded in the first two competitions, the strategic priorities of the Foundation, and the availability of funds. AHFMR acknowledges and thanks Alberta Health and Wellness for the grant to help support this program. Dr. Jacques Magnan, Interim President and CEO of AHFMR, and the Foundation's Board of Trustees congratulate the successful applicants, and acknowledge and thank all applicants for their substantial efforts.
