Creating Bone and Joint Health from the Bedside to the Bench and Back Again - Designer Therapies to Reduce the Burden of Osteoarthritis (OA) - from Mechanisms to Prevention

Osteoarthritis affects more than 4 million Canadians in all stages of life. That number is on the increase. With no known cure this chronic disease is managed with a combination of drugs, alternative treatments, rehabilitation, and joint replacement surgery, taking a great toll on patients and at great cost to the healthcare system. These 35 researchers representing a number of different faculties at the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, and McMaster University will investigate the causes of osteoarthritis, define the risks for the disease, identify means of prevention, and work to improve the outcomes of joint replacements.
