Major Equipment Grants
- Description
AHFMR holds an annual competition to assist Alberta's medical or health researchers in obtaining major scientific equipment (defined as equipment costing more than $10,000 per unit or setup). It is AHFMR's expectation that large requests (e.g. >$100,000) will include contribution from other sources.
- Term
It is expected that the purchase and delivery of the equipment will take place within one year of the date of formal approval. Funds not expended by this time must be returned to AHFMR. A statement of expenditures/account is due upon the conclusion of the award.
- Eligible Costs
Major equipment funds may be applied toward the purchase of the equipment, as well as toward the following expenses:
- installation
- freight
- transportation
- duty
- sales tax
- GST
- Use of Funds
Funds provided by AHFMR must be used for the purchase of the approved equipment. Any changes regarding this equipment must be approved by AHFMR in advance.
- Ownership
All equipment purchased with funds from AHFMR becomes the property of the host institution.
- Applications
Applications must be submitted on the current Major Equipment application forms by the deadline date of March 1, 2008. An Alberta-based institution must sponsor applications on behalf of full-time, competitively-funded, productive faculty members.
