Funding for Conferences
Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions (AIHS) offers support for conferences falling within the strategic priority areas as identified by Alberta’s Health Research & Innovation Strategy (AHRIS).
AIHS offers four competition deadlines per year for applicants to submit applications, depending on when the planned conference is scheduled to take place. All applications are due at the AIHS office by 4:00 p.m. on the competition deadline day. Applications will be accepted if sent by overnight courier prior to the deadline day.
Please note that applications must be submitted to AIHS prior to the proposed event dates. All applications deemed to meet the eligibility criteria will undergo a peer-review evaluation. The review will inform AIHS decision making.
The upcoming 2012 competition is scheduled as follows:

Conferences Grants
Each year AIHS will allocate a limited amount of funds towards the Conference Grant program.
Objectives:
Funding under the Conference Grant program is provided to help bring distinguished researchers to Alberta to present lectures and to participate in panel discussions. The process facilitates the dissemination of knowledge to the province's researchers, health professionals and other stakeholders. The conference must demonstrate the intent to promote collaboration and exchange between individuals, research groups, institutions, and organizations within Alberta and beyond.
Eligibility:
- Conferences must be held in Alberta.
- It is expected that effort will be made to provide access to the event to students, fellows and other stakeholders from all Alberta institutions and relevant organizations within Alberta’s health research and innovation community.
- Funding requests should be for multiple guest speakers. Applications with only one out-of-province guest speaker will not be considered.
Use of funds:
- Funds are provided primarily to defray the costs of travel and accommodation for invited speakers. Funding for "satellite" conferences is limited to offsetting travel costs (ground transportation and accommodation) from the site of the major conference to Alberta.
Applications:
- Applications are to be submitted using the current application form. Original plus four copies of the application are required.
- NOTE: This program receives a large number of requests per year but can only fund a limited number of events. For events that occur on a regular basis (e.g. annually or biannually) we encourage applicants to seek alternate sources of funding since AIHS support may not be available on a recurring basis.
