Protecting People While Increasing Knowledge:
Ethics in Health Research, Evaluation and Quality Improvement
May 4-6, 2008
Calgary, Alberta
Protecting People While Increasing Knowledge: Ethics in Health Research, Evaluation and Quality Improvement was an inaugural national conference on managing the ethics oversight of a spectrum of knowledge generating activities in Canada's health care and research system.
This groundbreaking interactive conference was attended by 163 delegates from across Canada representing health service managers and professionals, ethics board members, researchers, evaluators, senior research policy makers, and government and non-government funding agencies. The conference was designed to address the growing challenge to enable worthwhile projects while ensuring effective standards of protection for participants across a range of research, evaluation and quality improvement activities. The agenda provided opportunities to develop a common understanding of the issues, to learn from the work of others, and to determine tangible steps forward that would build on existing strengths in the system.
