As the province’s health research management corporation, Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions (AIHS) invests funds and value-added expertise in priority health research areas to support our mandate from the Government of Alberta to support research and innovation activities to improve the health of Albertans and create, through innovation, health related and economic benefits for Albertans.

Throughout 2011, AIHS engaged with stakeholders from government, the research community, health services, not-for-profits, and private industry to develop new initiatives for approval by the AIHS Board of Directors based on quality and relevance to Alberta’s needs and opportunities. The process involved convening expert working groups in three foundational areas of:

  • Highly Skilled People
  • Innovation Platforms
  • Knowledge Translation

On January 4, 2012 CEO Jacques Magnan announced a new slate of AIHS funding initiatives that were developed with the Highly Skilled People working group, and which are set to be rolled out in the coming months. These new initiatives will help to generate new research and innovation in Alberta that support our province’s strategic priorities. The Knowledge Translation and Innovation Platforms working groups have developed recommendations for additional initiatives, which will be consulted on in the coming months and will influence additional AIHS programming.
