Heritage Youth Researcher Summer Program

2011 Competition Results

The response to the 12th offering of the Heritage Youth Researcher Summer (HYRS) Program was excellent with 202 applications from 100 schools throughout the province. We are especially grateful to all teachers who were references for the students. We truly appreciate your efforts and look forward to meeting you at the HYRS Finale or the Teachers' Workshops later on in the summer. On May 16 the HYRS adjudication committee members - comprised of 4 teachers, from St. Albert, Lethbridge, Calgary, and Edmonton, and one researcher from the University of Calgary - met to select the 48 applicants for HYRS 2011. Twenty-two HYRS positions are at the University of Alberta, 22 are at the University of Calgary, and four students are at the University of Lethbridge.

This year we were able to accept four additional students into the HYRS program due to additional funding provided by the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
